Special Education

The process for identification includes an educational evaluation to consider possible eligibility for special education and related services in one or more categories listed above. A key aspect of the evaluation is the consideration of data derived from the student’s response to interventions within our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework. MTSS is a systematic approach to supporting all students by using universal screening, progress monitoring, and evidence-based practices and interventions. For students who may be struggling, the intent is to:

1. provide earlier and systematic assistance,
2. ensure high-quality instruction and interventions are delivered, and
3. conduct intensive monitoring of progress and improvement.

• MTSS Structure

Madison-Grant United School Corporation is a member of the Grant County Special Education Cooperative, whose offices are located in the Mississinewa Community School Corporation Administrative Offices. The Grant County Special Education Cooperative provides oversight and support to each member district to ensure that all students with disabilities receive the special education and related services required to enable students to successfully exit school and become contributing members of society. Madison-Grant United School Corporation provides educational services to students eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (federal law governing provision of special education, often called IDEA) and the Indiana State Board of Education Special Education Rules (called Article 7).
